The wine was going to her head. Because all Lyra could think about as Garrick led her down dark hallways was tugging him into a private corner and demanding the kiss he’d almost given her earlier this afternoon.
He looked darkly handsome in his crisp white button down. He’d left the top button opened, giving her glimpse of the space just below his neck. During dinner, she swore she’d caught sight of a few silver lines. Was he scarred there as well?
She’d been very particular when dressing for dinner this evening. The dress had been one of her staples over the years and she only brought it out for special occasions. Garrick seemed to like it well enough, so she determined that she’d done a good job. He hadn’t been able to take his eyes off her throughout dinner. Lyra would be lying if she said that she wasn’t thrilled by his attention. She’d attracted men in the past, but none had ever quite looked at her the way Garrick did, as though if he took his gaze off her, she’d disappear.
It had been more than a few years since her first and last boyfriend and she was never one to sleep around. Her lack of a sex life had never bothered her before, simply because she hadn’t had the time to really think about it, but now, she was intensely aware that Garrick was a man in his prime. Despite him denying that he was a playboy, something about the way he held himself, his natural confidence, told Lyra that he was no stranger to the opposite sex. He was sensual. It was in the way he walked, sure and steady, in the way he thumbed the stem of his wine glass, in the way his fingers brushed those gorgeous lips whenever he was thinking intently about something.
Lyra had a feeling that sleeping with him would ruin her. When she arrived at the house, she didn’t know how far she was willing to take this. Now, a large part of her wanted to take it very, very far. She hadn’t expected to want to sleep with Sebastian’s mysterious brother.
But damn…who could blame her?
You really need to lay off the wine, you lush, the rational half of her brain whispered. The other half said, Be a little naughty.
After what seemed like a mile, they reached a little nook at the west end of the first floor.
Garrick brought her to a door tucked into the left side of the hallway. When he pushed it open and held it for her, she glanced around the darkened room in confusion. Once he flicked on a lamp, it dimly lit the space to reveal the workshop he’d spoken of.
With heavily scuffed wood floors and slabs of grey concrete as work benches, the room suited Garrick somehow. It was both cozy—with antique candle sconces lining the stone walls and drapes of maroon velvet caressing the windows—yet cold—with harsh looking machinery gleaming off on one side. The room smelled of lumber, the scent sharp and comforting at the same time.
